Eco Holiday on the Isle of Skye – Reconnect with Nature at Rubha Phoil

Looking for an unforgettable eco Family holiday on the Isle of Skye for you and your family?  Rubha Phoil is a nature-based retreat where children can explore freely, adults can unwind in peace, and everyone can reconnect with the land and themselves. Wake up to birdsong, greet the seals by the shore, and let the forest become your playground.

Have a stroll on our 15 acres of forest, admire the lichen, trees, ancient heritage and geology and stunning views or enjoy the peace at one of our quiet beaches. Or take off to explore the diverse landscape of Sleat!

You can arrive at Rubha Phoil by car, bus, bike, foot or ferry. Find directions here.

Surrounded by Birds and Wildlife

Just off the shore of Rubha Phoil lie two small islands, untouched by humans. They’re home to a wide variety of birds, seals and otters. Some of our forest areas are designated wildlife zones, and over the years, our feathered and furry neighbours have grown used to our presence.

You can hear a choir of birds singing during the day, and if you pay attention, you might spot rare species — or even hand-feed a robin.

Singing With Seals

You might have heard that seals enjoy music — and here, they do! A few seals often visit the Rubha Phoil beach, just 200 metres from the cabin. Go for a walk, hum a tune, and watch them react.

Nature, Connection & Activities

Rubha Phoil is a treasure trove of natural abundance. The views, rich wildlife, ancient forest, fascinating geology, and peaceful beaches offer more than enough to fill weeks — even months — with discovery and reconnection.

To enrich your stay, we offer optional nature-based activities for all ages, which can be pre-booked before or during your visit. All activities are led by friendly, DBS-checked staff, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for everyone — especially families with children.

  • Introduction to Permaculture

  • Forest management and ecology
  • Bird language & nature connection
  • Tracking and wilderness awareness
  • Local history walks and storytelling
  • …and much more
“The kids absolutely loved going on an adventure with Ludwig, following otter tracks and find his home!, learn what birds talk about and learn which plants to eat. The staff were patient, kind, and full of fascinating knowledge. It was the highlight of our trip! And, it gave us parents some precious time to share with each other. Holidays can be intense and private time scarce. The kids didn’t miss us and came back with exciting stories!”
