Visit Us

We’re happy to invite different people to share our culture and life at Rubha Phoil. You can come for a night, a few days, months, or long term. There’s many possibilities to join Rubha Phoil, and we’re commited to find solutions that work with your intrests, skills and budgets.

It’s okay if you’re not sure whether Rubha Phoil is the right place for you. You can always reach out and we’ll try to find solutions together!

Holidays

Holidays can last anywhere from a single night to multiple weeks, depending on your availability and wishes. Rubha Phoil will be your base to start exploring the Isle of Skye or relax for a while. If you’re on vacation, you’re not part of everyday community life. You will live in one of our two beautiful cabins with access to your own private kitchen, toilet and fireplace.

Volunteering

Volunteers live on Rubha Phoil as part of the community for at least one month, exceptions can be made. During their time on the Rock they participate in some sort of work exchange, community meetings, and take turns on the chore rota. Volunteers might not be included in decisions about the long-term future of Rubha Phoil. Other than that they can call Rubha Phoil their home.

There’s usually a diverse team of volunteers at Rubha Phoil, and we encourage people of all genders, sexualities, nationalities, ethnicities, and ages to apply. If you’re following a special diet or have accessibility needs we’re happy to try and accomodate them.

Permanent Residents

Permanent or long-term residents are the core group of Rubha Phoil, that lives on the Rock all of most of the time. As a resident you can hold shares of the land ownership, take on greater responsibility, and have opportunities to start a business. There’s a possibility to rent a house on Rubha Phoil, buy a building plot for a house, or live in one of the volunteer caravans and huts.

Depending on your financial means, expertise, interests and skills we can find an arrangement to make it possible for you to join. Families, groups and individuals are very welcome to contact us.

Virtual Visits

Our Virtual Village is the online extension of our offline community. It’s our way to stay in touch with past visitors, volunteers, and people interested in coming to Rubha Phoil. We post updates about developments, events and discounts.

There’s also a shop connected to the virtual village, where you can get special deals on vacations, take part in workshops, and much more!

Fair Exchange

Stays at Rubha Phoil should be a pleasant experience for everyone. We want to make sure that you have all the time you need to explore and relax. At the same time there’s many jobs that need to be done to keep a community running. And hosting visitors is expensive. That’s why we try to find a fair exchange arrangement: usually that is something you offer us in return for shelter and food.

People on holiday typically pay a daily fee to stay here. Volunteers and Residents can make other arrangements that can vary over time. For example, someone could work 25 hours a week and not pay anything. Or they could pay a little and work less. Depending on experience and capacities you could also contribute in other ways. Let’s find the solution that works for all of us!

Coming to an arrangement that feels fair to everyone involved is one of the key steps before deciding on an application. Don’t worry – we will guide you through the process!
